Dr.
Rich Knopp, LCU Seminary professor of philosophy and
apologetics, has been invited to deliver a plenary address for the
2011 Midwest meeting of the Evangelical Theological/Philosophical
Society at Cincinnati Christian University on March 25-26. The title
of his presentation is "Philosophy of Science, Religious
Truth-Claims, and Rational Commitment: Reflections on a 20-Year-Old
Dissertation."
Knopp's Ph.D. dissertation at the University of
Illinois examined the status of religious truth-claims and
commitment in light of contemporary philosophy of science.
According
to Knopp, the presentation is not a simple nostalgic return to his
dissertation; it is an opportunity to assess the significance of
that work in light of subsequent developments in culture and
Christian scholarship.
Many LCU faculty and alumni will attend this conference as participants and
speakers. The event will also host student paper competitions for undergraduate
and graduate students. Dr. Jim Estep, LCU professor of Christian education, and
Dr. Robert Kurka, professor of theology and church in culture, will present
papers along with other faculty presenters.
(As a point of interest, Kurka serves as the secretary-treasurer for the
Midwest chapter of the Evangelical Theological/Philosophical Society.)
