Risk of large hail and damaging winds for central Illinois after midnight

[March 22, 2011]  The National Weather Service office in Lincoln issued a hazardous weather outlook statement at 6 a.m. Tuesday for portions of central Illinois and east-central Illinois for today and tonight.

This outlook is for the counties of Champaign, Christian, DeWitt, Douglas, Knox, Logan, Macon, Marshall, McLean, Menard, Moultrie, Peoria, Piatt, Sangamon, Shelby, Stark, Tazewell, Vermilion and Woodford.

An isolated thunderstorm or two will be possible from midday into the late afternoon hours Tuesday. The risk for severe weather with these storms is low. However, a strong storm system will bring a threat for severe thunderstorms tonight. The primary threat will be large hail, with damaging winds also possible. The most likely time frame for severe weather will be from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday.
