 The program included an informational ag update from John Hartman,
chairman of the chamber's ag committee, and a presentation by the
Hartsburg-Emden ag issues competition team, under the direction of
Betsy Pech.The breakfast was catered by Guzzardo's.
The chamber's Ag Scholarship Breakfast is a free community event
celebrating its 12th anniversary. During the history of the
breakfast, $67,000 has been awarded in scholarships to high school
seniors and college students who are pursuing an education in
agricultural-related fields and have aspirations to return to Logan
County. The chamber's ag committee feels that the key to the future
of agriculture in Logan County is to invest in these bright young
students.
This year, $9,000 was awarded to the scholarship winners:

Joshua Clark is a
Hartsburg-Emden High School graduate and attends Illinois
Central College, pursuing a career in diesel-powered equipment
technology and agriculture. His parents are Stan and Lisa Clark.

Daniel Fulton is a
graduate of Lincoln Community High School and attends the
University of Illinois and Parkland Community College in a
dual-enrollment program, pursuing a degree in crop sciences.
Daniel is a son of John and Sherry Fulton.

David Fulton is a
graduate of Lincoln Community High School and attends the
University of Illinois and Parkland College in a dual-enrollment
program, pursuing a degree in agricultural leadership education.
David is a son of John and Sherry Fulton.

Orry Ingram is a
graduate of Lincoln Community High School. He currently attends
Truman State University and is pursuing an education in
agricultural business. Orry's parents are Larry and Verdeen
Ingram.

Andrew Lindgren,
is a graduate of Olympia High School and attends the University
of Illinois, pursuing a degree in animal science in a
pre-veterinary program. Andrew's parents are Jim and Diane
Lindgren.

Andrew McCarty is
a graduate of Mount Pulaski High School and is currently
attending Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, pursuing a
degree in animal science and livestock production. Andrew's
parents are Robyn and Richard McCarty.

Ellen Olson is a
graduate of Mount Pulaski High School. She currently attends
Lake Land Community College and plans to transfer to Western
Illinois as she pursues an education in animal science. Her
parents are John and Ann Olson.

Mathew Runyon is a
graduate of Lincoln Community High School and currently attends
Illinois State University, where he is pursuing a degree in
agriculture chemistry. His parents are Dale and Roberta Runyon.

Christina Stoll is
a graduate of Mount Pulaski High School and attends the
University of Illinois, studying food science and human
nutrition. Her parents are Marcia and Kenton Stoll.
Applications for these scholarships are evaluated by a committee
compromised of local Logan County businesses that have made a key
investment in this event. The committee is provided a scoring sheet,
and the applicants are judged on their application forms, essay
questions, academic merits, activities and future
agriculture-related endeavors.
The chamber's Ag Scholarship Breakfast is designed to recognize
the economic impact of agriculture in Logan County and is possible
due the generosity of many Logan County businesses.
The breakfast directly reflects the chamber's ag committee
mission to enhance the Logan County economy by strengthening ag and
business relationships, exploring and implementing value-added
opportunities, developing and marketing agricultural tourism
attractions, and encouraging natural resource management.
