This year at the balloon fest, downtown Lincoln will host its first Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned competition.

Saturday 37 individuals spent four hours learning how to be sanctioned judges for the competition.

After two hours of learning there was two hours of tasting, with comments and advice from instructor Mike Lake about the proper way to gauge great barbecue.

Judges learned how to judge appearance, tenderness and taste with chicken, ribs, brisket and shoulder.
