[May 06, 2011]  HOUSTON (AP) -- Twins brothers charged with murder after police found them living with their mother's bug-infested corpse have been placed under the guardianship of relatives.

Attorney Ali Fazel said Thursday that a probate court judge has ruled that 48-year-old Edward and Edwin Berndt don't have the mental capacity to care for themselves.

The Houston Chronicle reports that a state district court still must decide whether the twins have the mental capacity to stand trial.

Police found 89-year-old Sybil Berndt's body during a welfare check last month.

The brothers told police that their mother fell on Jan. 10 while they were watching a football game. They left her on the floor because they said they didn't have any money to get her medical treatment. She died three days later.
