LCU hosts seminar on post-traumatic stress disorder

Later this month,
Lincoln Christian University will host "Not Forsaken: Approaches for
Healing PTSD," which deals with post-traumatic stress disorder. The
seminar is for professional counselors and is co-sponsored by LCU's
Hargrove Leadership Institute and Illini Christian Ministries.
Participants will meet in Restoration Hall on the LCU campus on
Friday, May 20.

The sessions will be led by Dawn M. Zywiec, LCPC, R.N. The seminar
is based on the extensive work of Diana Langberg, Christian
psychologist and author of “On the
Threshold of Hope: Opening the Door to Healing for Survivors of
Sexual Abuse,” including post-traumatic
stress disorder, complex trauma, grief in domains of sexual abuse,
cancer, combat trauma and domestic violence. Material presented will
integrate the impact of trauma on spirituality, and three treatment
modalities will be addressed: EMDR, exposure therapy, and Remuda's
Trauma Treatment Model. Participants will leave encouraged and
empowered with new approaches to use with people suffering from PTSD.

presentation, questions and evaluation
The afternoon session will include an opportunity for
participants to present cases of their own for discussion.
Participants are encouraged to prepare case material prior to the
seminar, maintaining counselee confidentiality.
The total cost for the seminar registration is $85, $25 for
students and $40 for nonprofessionals. Illini Christian Ministries
provides a refund of 50 percent for cancellations received 24 hours
prior to the seminar.

Illini Christian Ministries is a licensed provider of continuing
education for LCPC and LPC licensure. Six hours of continuing
education are awarded for each seminar.
