Local Scouts to sell 30,000 candy bars

[May 07, 2011]  Cub Scouts from Pack 111 and their alumni in Boy Scouts are selling Kathryn Beich candy bars to raise money for summer camps as a primary goal. Scouts earn credit from each candy bar sold, and the credit can be used to pay for camps and any other Scouting-related expenses.

Gas prices have risen to be a big expense this year, making it expensive to go to Scouting events. The cost for summer camps this year ranges from $73 to $240, so the boys have a lot of work to do.

Cubmaster Jason Schafer, who is leading the effort, has a passion to make Scouting accessible and affordable to any boy who wants to be involved. Many of the boys in Pack 111 would not be able to afford to go to camp if they couldn’t earn it, and some would not be able to be in Scouting at all if they could not earn their way. Some of the boys are earning their entire way through Scouting.

The pack has placed orders for over 30,000 candy bars and has already sold over 20,000.

The pack will be at the Lincoln Walmart this weekend for the last time this season.  Please support the boys by buying $1 candy bars when you see them at Walmart or other places around town.

Any boy going into first to fifth grade this fall is eligible to join Cub Scouts. Call Mr. Schafer at 217-737-3068 for information about joining.
