With that prom still a vivid memory, it's hard to believe next
year's prom is already being planned, but it is. According to
Jennifer Keith, English and journalism teacher at LCHS and a sponsor
of the Class of 2013, planning a really great prom takes time and
money.
"It will cost about $7,000, about half the price of a wedding,"
Keith said. "We'll rent the KC Hall, hire a DJ, provide food and the
decorations."
To that end, the Class of 2013 has already held and will continue
to hold a variety of fundraisers, including Saturday's Princess
Party.
Keith said the inspiration for the Princess Party came from two
sources -- knowing her own little girls and what they enjoy doing,
and the experience she had last year with them at the Lincoln
Christian Church Princess Tea.
She added that the date chosen for the Princess Party was set
specifically to fall the day before Mother's Day, and activities for
the little girls included making items they could give to their
moms.
The party, which began at 9 and ran until 11 Saturday morning,
included a variety of activity stations manned by approximately 15
sophomores and several parents and other adults.
There was face painting; an opportunity to have nails done; craft
projects including making and decorating picture frames, cards and
flowers; coloring activities; a "kiss the frog" game; and of course,
cupcakes and punch for refreshments.
In addition, the little girls had a chance to practice their
dance moves in the center of the school cafeteria, and once
completely "made up," get their pictures taken in a formal setting.

Keith said she had a count of around 60 little girls and parents
attending the party Saturday, which means they're off to a good
start in their fundraising efforts.
She added that she is hoping to get some good deals on supplies
this summer, so she wants to go ahead and get a formal planning
committee put together.
"I have really crafty moms in this group," she said. "We've
thought if we could set up a theme right now, we could work on
decorations over the summer."
In addition, Keith hopes the group will raise enough money that
they can lower the ticket cost for prom attendees.
"Tickets for the kids this year were $50 a couple," she said.
"We're hoping if we can fundraise enough, maybe we can lower that
cost."
