Correction: Pension shortfall

[May 11, 2011]  SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- In an April 26 story about a Pew Center on the States study of states' preparedness to pay future pension obligations, The Associated Press erroneously reported that states needed to contribute $115 billion to keep from falling further behind, but they provided only $73 billion.

The study actually found the states needed to contribute $68 billion to their pension systems but provided only $56.3 billion. The larger figures included both pension costs and retiree health care.
