[May 12, 2011]  The following is a list of the items found inside the time capsule opened on the grounds of the new ALMH. The capsule was from Oct 12, 1952, during the build of the former hospital.

  • Reel-to-reel tape recording of May 20, 1952, groundbreaking ceremony

  • Lincoln Evening Courier clipping from groundbreaking event

  • Copy of account written in old German of second meeting of Deaconess Society, May 11, 1899

  • Historical notes for 50th anniversary of Deaconess Hospital

  • Program from Service of Thanksgiving at St. John's Evangelical Church on June 22, 1952, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Deaconess Hospital

  • Six-page typewritten history of Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital

  • List of physicians serving the Deaconess Hospital from 1902 to 1908, alongside a list of the 1952 medical staff.

  • Program, Scripture readings and prayers from the Oct. 12, 1953, cornerstone-laying ceremony

  • Items that symbolize the medical and nursing profession:

  • A variety of silver coins representing key dates in hospital history:

    • 1899 dollar with the name of Raymond Gimbel etched within
      Gimbel was the secretary of the board at the time of incorporation of the hospital.

    • 1948 half dollar commemorating the incorporation of ALMH, with Walter Faster's named etched within
      Faster was the president of the board at that time.

    • 1950 half dollar etched with name of Art Gimbel

    • 1952 half dollar etched with name of Charles Schmitt, vice president of the hospital.

    • Another unetched half dollar

    • Two pennies -- one from 1943 and another from 1950

  • Pocket-size Bible presented to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital from William E. Berger, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Oct. 12, 1952

  • A new copy of the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, placed by Rev. J.H. Soluilty, administrator, and the Rev. William E. Berger of Trinity Episcopal.
