 Current NHS officers are Morgan Barrick, co-president and
publicity officer; Shanna Sheen, co-president; Katy Langdon and
Brock Endres, co-vice presidents; Haley Adams, treasurer; Audra
Krusz, secretary; Hayden Zimmer, tutoring officer; and Katie Boss,
student council chairman. Sponsors for this school year were Ms.
Hyde and Ms. Dopp.
New officers for the 2011-2012 school year are Ethan Anderson,
president; Lauren Soebbing, vice president; Angela Kelley,
secretary; Sara Buchanan, treasurer; Elaine Tiffany, publicity
officer; and Anna Maxwell, tutoring officer. Sponsors will be Ms.
Dopp and Ms. Burton.
National Honor Society was established in 1921 by a principal in
Pittsburgh, Pa. His intention was to create an organization that
would encourage students who exhibited outstanding academics,
behavior and ethics, and dedication to their school and community.
The NHS constitution states its main purpose is "to create
enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service,
to promote leadership and to develop character in the students of
secondary schools."
Scholastic levels must be 3.0 out of 4.0, or a comparable rating.
Volunteer service must be performed in the school or community.
Leadership must be displayed by problem-solving, promoting school
activities and having a positive outlook on life. Character must be
shown by honesty and reliability, a high degree of morality and
ethics, and courtesy and a clean lifestyle.

The Lincoln Community High School NHS members have participated in
Relay for Life, Beautify Lincoln (Paint the Town Red), recycling
programs, tutoring (all grades), assisting at the Sunday dinners at
the American Legion, and helping with elementary school activities
such as the West Lincoln-Broadwell Fall Festival and reading to
students at Chester-East Lincoln. The members have also conducted a
World War II Memorial fundraiser and a Civil War dedication and have
distributed holiday cards for senior citizens.
