[May 21, 2011]  University of Illinois Extension in Logan County sponsored a Walk Day event on Monday, May 16, for local elementary students.

Children in county elementary schools were invited to participate by walking with their class at recess that day.

A total of nine schools, 52 teachers and 953 students in Logan County schools participated in this Walk Day activity, walking a total of over 51 miles.

The fifth-grade class at Washington-Monroe Elementary in Lincoln, taught by Kate Ewing, as well as the kindergarten class at Jefferson Elementary in Lincoln, taught by Connie Hofer, won random drawings of those participating and were awarded bags of trail mix for their classes to snack on during their walks.

Walk Day is an annual event in May, sponsored by University of Illinois Extension.

For information about how to get involved next year, please contact Patty Huffer at the Logan County Extension office, 732-8289.
