Just as they rehearsed, the afternoon pre-kindergarten at Adams School re-enacted the story of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" at Spirit Day on Friday. The book by Eric Carle was one of the pre-K classroom's favorite stories from this month's selections. The story tells about a young caterpillar that eats vegetables, fruits, treats and, finally,  a large leaf, before he goes to sleep and changes into a beautiful butterfly. The children chose to change the caterpillar to a "she" for their performance.

Adams School pre-K teacher Mrs. Shirley introduced the Spirit Day activity -- the afternoon pre-K re-enactment of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," by Eric Carle -- and thanked the substitute teachers and teacher aides for helping this school year.

Mrs. Shirley's afternoon pre-K class at Adams School rehearsed their performance all week, and on Friday they were ready to tell the story of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."

The pre-K students decided to change the original story to suit their impression of the caterpillar...

...so they called it a "she" and Ashtyn Gannon was chosen to be the butterfly.

Adams School has four classrooms: early childhood, pre-K (morning and afternoon sessions), kindergarten, and one for first and second grades. When students are promoted to third grade, they attend Central School or Washington-Monroe, depending on where they live.

There are approximately 145 students at Adams School. At the Spirit Day event on Friday, Mrs. Shirley told the second-grade students they would be missed when they changed schools for next school year, but they would always be part of the Adams School family.
