[November 01, 2011]  On Saturday, the Lincoln College volleyball team honored their sophomore players and families prior to the match with Sauk Valley Community College. Lincoln went on to win the match three sets to one.

Sauk came out strong in the first set, putting LC on the defensive with five straight service points to start the match. LC regrouped and managed to make it close, but Sauk held on for a 25-23 set one win. In the second set, Lincoln overcame some inconsistent serving to win 25-20. Sets three and four saw the Lady Lynx reduce their number of unforced errors and lead most of the way in each set. LC won set three 25-21 and took set four 25-14.

Lincoln finishes the regular season with a record of 21 wins and 10 losses.

LC coach Mark Tippett commented:

"I am very pleased that our sophomore class was able to earn a win in their final match at home. This was a fun group to work with over the last two seasons, and they accomplished a lot. They earned two tournament championships and won over 40 matches. The best part is that they got along with each other as well as any group I have coached, and they were positive role models for our freshman class. I am sure they will all go on to do well in school and life.

"As for our play today, we still have some nagging problems with missing serves and not finishing of plays that we should probably make, but overall we played well. I am confident that if we go into our regional match on Wednesday with the right attitude, we will come out on top."

Lincoln plays in the first round of the Region 24 tournament on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. match at Lincoln Land Community College. The winner of that match will advance to the region Final Four on Saturday.
