[November 02, 2011]  Lincoln College wrestling's 2011-2012 season seems to be picking up where 2010-2011 left off. In the preseason poll released this week, the Lynx find themselves ranked sixth.

HardwareIn addition to the team rankings, the poll has seven individuals ranked in their respective weights. Leading the way are returning all-Americans Mark Marianovich at 149 pounds and Michael Johnson at 184 pounds. Marianovich, a sophomore from Chicago and ranked fourth last year, finds himself at the top of the list, ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds. Johnson, a sophomore from Indianapolis, Ind., and seventh last year, is ranked second. Adding to this list are Prentice Thomas, 125 pounds, sophomore from Carbondale, ranked fifth; Coy Davidson, 133, freshman from Litchfield, ranked 12th; Ethan Raley, 141, freshman from Nineveh, Ind., ranked 12th; Matt Dwyer, 197, freshman from South Beloit, ranked seventh; and West Cathcart, heavyweight, freshman from Geneseo, ranked ninth.

"I'm excited about our preseason ranking," says Dave Klemm, head coach. "It's nice to get some early recognition. However, it's a long way from Feb. 24 and the national tournament. I believe these rankings will have some dramatic changes as the season progresses. This is a great starting point for us. We have a very talented team. With a lot of hard work and a little luck, I believe we can finish this high or higher."

The Lynx will find out right away what they are capable of, when they travel to Mason City, Iowa, this weekend to compete in the NIACC open tournament.
