[October 12, 2011]  Calling all canines and their owners! Come join us for a doggie "Howl-O-Ween" dress-up at Field of Greens Park (adjacent to the driving range). We'll begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, with activities lasting approximately one hour. All children and dogs should come dressed in their Halloween costumes for a doggie parade to "spooktacular" music. Every dog is a winner and receives a doggie bag filled with healthy homemade dog cookies and prizes.

Preregistration is required, and all dogs must be leashed to participate in the show. To register, call Lincoln Park District or email your information to info@lincolnparkdistrict.com. Registration is $5 in district, $7 out of district.

Please dress warmly, as we will be outside. The show will be moved indoors in case of inclement weather.

This is co-sponsored by the Humane Society of Logan County. A portion of the registration fees will be donated to the HSLC.

Included in this offer is a pizza, bread sticks with dipping sauce and a 2-liter bottle of soda. First place will receive a quarterly family full-access membership, while second and third will receive quarterly family circuit memberships. Be scary, be funny, be creative or be all three. Decorate your house and compete against other Lincoln residents.

Register by Oct. 18. You may register by calling the park district at 732-8770 or online. Please include your name, address, phone number and a brief description of your theme or decorations. The contest is FREE and open to all city of Lincoln residents.

On the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 19, the judges will view all entries between 6:30 and 8:30. Judging will be based on originality, lighting, arrangements and use of props.

Winners will be announced in the local media, and pictures may be featured on our website. We regret previous first-place winners will be ineligible.

Join us to decorate six Halloween-themed cookies. The park district will supply the cookies and frostings. A variety of toppings will also be available to choose from. Make them scary or make them cute. Participants will want to wear an old shirt because we'll be working with food coloring that may stain. When we're done decorating, we'll enjoy some Halloween treats ourselves with a glass of milk and a non-scary story or two. This will be on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 9 a.m. Cost is $7 in district, $9.50 out of district. You'll find us in the craft room.
