[November 03, 2011]  SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack used a visit to Springfield to talk about tax breaks for ethanol.

Vilsack visited a sporting goods store Wednesday to promote President Barack Obama's job-creation program.

The State Journal-Register reports that Vilsack said he doesn't expect a credit for ethanol blenders to be renewed at the end of the year. The tax break was included in a 2004 job-creation bill. Blenders mix ethanol with gasoline.

But the agriculture secretary says he expects biofuels to continue to be vital to alternative fuels.

Vilsack also spent time Wednesday at Springfield's Old State Capitol, kicking off the 150th anniversary celebration for the USDA's founding.
