[November 04, 2011]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Lincoln College volleyball season came to an end on Wednesday evening when the Lady Lynx dropped their opening round match in the Region 24 tournament to Lincoln Land CC in straight sets. Despite the fact LC was without setter Vicky Arriola, due to an ankle injury she suffered in practice on Monday, they put up a very good fight against the No. 3-seeded Loggers.

Backup setter Jana Wright stepped in and helped to keep Lincoln competitive in the first set. LC led late in the set 20-15, but a six-point run by Lincoln Land saw the lead disappear, and the Lady Lynx eventually fell 25-23.

Lincoln battled again in set two, where the lead changed hands several times. The set was tied at 17 when again LLCC put together a run that led to a 25-20 victory.

With a 2-0 advantage, Lincoln Land came out strong in the third set and led all the way to a 25-17 win.

Lincoln College finishes the season at 21-11.

LC coach Mark Tippett commented:

"I was very proud of the effort we gave tonight. Being without a key player like Vicky Arriola, who has been a consistent setter for us all year, was a tough adjustment to make. I can't say enough good things about the job Jana Wright did taking her place as our second setter. Jana has not set at all in a match this year, but you would never know it by the way she played. Our players played with a lot of heart and gave it their best effort.

"Overall, it was a great season, and I am pleased with the progress we made as a team. The best part is that the players all got along and bonded as a team as well as any group I have coached. 2011 will be a season I look back on with a lot of fond memories."
