Elkhart Historical Society's candlelight chapel service tickets available

[November 03, 2011]  ELKHART -- Reservations are now being taken for the annual Christmas candlelight service at St. John the Baptist Chapel in Elkhart. The program will be presented Dec. 3, with services at 2, 4, 5:30 and 8 p.m. The theme this year is "Christmas Traditions," and the featured music will be a mix of traditional instruments and vocals.

To obtain tickets, call 217-947-2238 starting Nov. 7. Once your reservation is confirmed by phone, then print and fill out the online printable form at www.elkharthistoricalsociety.org and mail your check with your reservation form. Reservation forms are also available at Horsefeathers in historic downtown Elkhart. The cost is $10 per person. Seats cannot be held without payment. In addition, restaurants in historic downtown Elkhart will provide special dining options Dec. 3. For dinner at the Wild Hare Café or for the Central Illinois Event Catering dinner buffet, you can make reservations when you call 217-947-2238 to obtain tickets for the service.

The Wild Hare Café, 104 Gov. Oglesby St., is offering roast pork tenderloin or roast turkey breast. Both entrees include mashed potatoes and gravy, sage bread stuffing, baby carrots and peas, cranberry and orange sauce, dinner roll, your choice of apple crisp or lemon mousse, and beverage. The price is $22.50 and includes tax and gratuity. You are welcome to bring your own wine or beer to enjoy with your meal. A full dinner buffet, catered by Central Illinois Event Catering, will be served from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Elkhart Village Hall on Gov. Oglesby St. The menu includes roasted beef tenderloin with Gorgonzola cream sauce, creamy roasted chicken tortellini, Parmesan mashed potatoes, Riviera vegetable blend, salad, a bread station and beverage. The buffet also includes a luscious mini dessert buffet -- why have only one dessert when you can have them all! The price is $20 per person and includes tax and gratuity. Hudson's Talk of the Town restaurant at 115 Gov. Oglesby St. will offer a special dinner on Dec. 3 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. The menu will be 8-ounce choice steak, twice-baked potato, vegetable medley, dinner roll and full salad bar. All reservations must be made by Nov. 28. No prepayment is required. Call 217-947-2770 for information and reservations.

The Bluestem Bake Shop at 107 Gov. Oglesby St. will be open on Dec. 3 with their usual range of delicious baked goods and deli items.

The Elkhart Historical Society's 2012 calendar commemorates the remaining sections of Edwards' Trace. The year 2012 marks the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and the first time the ancient trail was identified as "Edwards' Trace." The calendar will be available in time for Christmas giving. A membership in the Elkhart Historical Society includes a free calendar with the annual dues. Calendars and memberships can be individually ordered by calling 217-947-2238.
