Starbucks, Fluor, A123 are big market movers

[November 05, 2011]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE

Medifast Inc., down 34 cents at $15.01

The weight-loss program operator said its third-quarter net income fell 12 percent because of higher costs for raw materials.

Fluor Corp., down $3.74 at $54.86

The engineering and construction company posted a third-quarter profit, but its 2012 guidance came in below what analysts expected.

Alcatel-Lucent SA, down 46 cents at 2.30

The technology firm said that third-quarter profits improved, but it cut its 2011 earnings expectations due to a weak economy.

Nasdaq

Starbucks Corp., up $2.79 at $44.19

The coffee company said that its fourth-quarter profit jumped nearly 29 percent on strong sales, beating Wall Street estimates.

A123 Systems Inc., down 36 cents at $3.17

The maker of rechargeable batteries for electric cars lowered its full-year revenue outlook because a customer cut its order.

Cree Inc., up $2.69 at $30.57

Shares of the light-emitting diodes maker rose after China said it plans to phase out incandescent light bulbs within five years.

Imperial Sugar Co., down 83 cents at $6.03

The sugar seller said that it was suspending its dividend due to high raw sugar prices that are hurting its gross margins.

The Madison Square Garden Co., up $1.21 at $27.96

The New York sporting, media and entertainment company said its first-quarter profit rose on higher revenue from its media unit.
