[November 07, 2011]  MASON CITY, Iowa -- The Lincoln College wrestling team's season officially began Saturday at the Kaye Young Open hosted by Northern Iowa Area Community College. The Lynx wrestling team got off to a good start, winning championships in four of the 10 weight classes.

At 125, sophomore Prentice Thomas defeated Chase Flack of Iowa State in the finals 8-5. At 141, freshman Mike Tougher defeated Matt White of Iowa State 5-2. At 184, sophomore Mike Johnson won by major decision over Kyle Soderblom of William Penn 19-7. At 197, redshirt freshman Matt Dwyer won by decision over Karl Spain of William Penn 1-0.

Nine other Lynx wrestlers also placed in the top six:

  • 141 -- freshman Ethan Raley, third

  • 141 -- freshman Jake Gregerson, fourth

  • 149 -- sophomore Mark Marianovich, third

  • 157 -- freshman Kameron Jame, third

  • 157 -- freshman Darnell Thomas, fifth

  • 157 -- freshman Alex Young, sixth

  • 165 -- sophomore Andre Foster, fifth

  • Hwt -- freshman West Cathcart, third

  • Hwt -- freshman Darvin Fridge, sixth

The team will compete in Michigan next weekend at the Muskegon duals and Muskegon open.
