[
November 08, 2011]  The Harvest of Talents for World Hunger team has just under 300 bags of potatoes left, with a few 20-pound bags for $7.50 and mostly the red 50-pound bags for $15. Because of the weather and the limited space, we need to get these potatoes placed as soon as possible.

This Saturday men will be at the garage on the north side of the church parking lot from 7 a.m. to noon to assist anyone who wants to come by and get potatoes for personal use or to donate to the food pantry, inner city mission or New Beginnings.

For more information, please call the church office at 732-7618.

Bill Gossett will speak about his Freedom Flight to Washington, D.C., with other veterans when he gives a presentation Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Lincoln Woman's Club tea at 1 p.m. at the club building, 230 N. McLean St.

Devotions for the meeting will be given by Diane Osborn, with Janet Haning and Charlotte Bennett serving as social co-chairwomen. Greeters will be Janet Langenbahn and Carolyn Wessels.

Members are to bring nonperishable food items for the Lincoln/Logan Food Pantry, and gift items to be sent to servicemen and women.

To help ensure an adequate blood supply for our region, the Central Illinois Community Blood Center is offering several opportunities to donate blood in Logan County.

Are you entertaining during the holidays and baking cookies just isn't your thing, or perhaps your schedule is filled and you just do not have the time? We have the perfect solution for you! You are invited to come to a Christmas cookie walk in the Lincoln Christian Church Fellowship Center on Saturday, Dec. 10. From 8 to 11 a.m. a variety of homemade Christmas cookies will be available to purchase. You may make your own selection of cookies at $6 per pound or purchase prepackaged cookies on a decorative plate for just $15. Take them home for weekend entertaining, or pop them in your freezer and you will be prepared for Christmas parties and last-minute holiday guests.

Guests are invited to enter the Fellowship Center through the north canopy door from the parking lot.

All proceeds from the cookie walk will become a part of the 2012 Harvest of Talents for World Hunger and will be channeled through International Disaster Emergency Service to meet hunger needs worldwide.

Veterans, family and friends are invited and encouraged to come to the Veterans Day honors on Nov. 11 at the Freedom Hall Event Center, formerly known as the VFW Hall.

Veterans Day is largely intended to thank living veterans for dedicated and loyal service to their country. Nov. 11 each year is the day we ensure that veterans know we deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made to keep our country free. Please come join us to thank veterans for their service.

Ham and beans will be served for a donation following the ceremony. The time is 10:30-11 a.m.

All kinds of things are happening in this community. We recommend you click on our community calendar to keep abreast of all the activities in our community. And check it frequently as we add events almost every day.
