[November 09, 2011]  John Eigenbrod often puts patients' and co-workers' needs above his own -- eager to assist anyone with anything -- and that is one reason he's such an asset to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. He has been named November Employee of the Month at the hospital.

"John delivers great patient experiences through checking the building's heating, cooling and water delivery systems first thing every morning. He goes above and beyond to make sure patients, staff and visitors are comfortable," said an anonymous co-worker who nominated John for Employee of the Month at ALMH. "He often works through his break or lunch to complete the task at hand. He is a great teacher/helper to the other plant operations staff."

Eigenbrod has been working at ALMH for more than four years. He's been employed in the plumbing field for 38 years.

A graduate of Delavan High School, Eigenbrod completed a five-year apprenticeship to prepare him for his career and takes continuing education classes.

His day-to-day job is checking all the mechanical systems in the hospital's physical plant to make sure they are performing properly, in addition to completing daily repairs of plumbing and heating/cooling equipment to maintain safety and comfort for patients, visitors and employees.

Eigenbrod said his career is a rewarding one, and there will always be demand for this type of work for those who are willing to learn new information constantly and take pride in what they do.

"There is always a new challenge in the plant operations department," he said. "I like working at ALMH because it's like working in a small community where everybody knows their co-workers."

ALMH employs about 300 in a variety of roles. Each month someone is honored as Employee of the Month.
