[November 09, 2011]  Student teacher Heather Rogers at Jefferson Elementary School spent part of her last week with the second grade teaching students about voting.

HardwareThey began by filling out voter registration cards.

The candidates were Butterfinger candy bars and Cherry Laffy Taffy.

Students wrote a list of reasons why their favorite candy should win, and the lists were used as campaign speeches. An audience of parents and classmates listened to the speeches on Tuesday.

Votes were cast in a simulated voting booth set up in the classroom. Later in the day, a tally of votes announced the winner to be Cherry Laffy Taffy.
