The nation's weather

[November 11, 2011] (AP) Mild weather is anticipated across most of the nation on Friday as one system exits the East Coast and another approaches the West Coast.

A low pressure system in eastern Canada will continue pushing a cold front eastward. This front will quickly move off the East Coast and into the Atlantic Ocean, allowing for rain showers to diminish across the Eastern Seaboard. However, the front will linger over Maine and Nova Scotia, bringing periods of heavy rain showers. Temperatures will remain unseasonably warm; thus, snow showers are not anticipated, as overnight lows will only dip into the mid-40s.

Meanwhile, the backside of this system will allow for scattered lake-effect rain and snow showers to develop across the Great Lakes, along the downwind shores.

In the South, cold air will continue to filter in from the North, allowing for unseasonably cool temperatures to persist. Highs will remain in the 50s and 60s, with overnight lows dipping into the mid-30s. Thus, freeze and frost advisories will remain in effect from the lower Mississippi River Valley to South Carolina.

Out West, a low pressure system spinning off the coast of California continues approaching the West Coast. This will kick up a few coastal showers as it the system slide southward throughout the day. Rainfall is not likely in the interior regions.

In the Northwest, a low pressure system over the Gulf of Alaska moves into British Columbia and will extend into the Pacific Northwest. Expect rain and snow showers to develop over Washington, reaching into Oregon in the evening.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a morning low of minus 4 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont., to a high of 82 degrees at Opa Locka, Fla.
