[November 19, 2011]  In a Friday morning program, students from Montessori Children's House of Lincoln performed music written by Stephen Foster. His songs celebrated patriotism, freedom of speech and the American way of life. The students recited facts and information about Foster, and stressed the things to be grateful for on Thanksgiving. The program was managed by the students while teachers sat nearby and allowed the students to perform their piano pieces and recite their part of the story of Foster's life.

Diane Tomczak, third grade, opened the program with a patriotic introduction and played a Foster song. Master teacher Bethany Vickers and two former students listen to the performance.

Students at Montessori are given piano lessons as part of the curriculum. Each student performed a different Stephen Foster song.

Montessori Children's House of Lincoln has students from kindergarten through third grade. Students attend public school classes when they enter fourth grade.

Students presented their parents with booklets that display examples of their recently completed lessons.

Parents, grandparents and siblings attended the Thanksgiving program on Friday morning. The Montessori Children's House will present a Christmas program on Dec. 8.
