 Officials said Friday that the unemployment rate in Illinois is 10.1
percent, above the national rate of 9 percent. Though the state
added jobs in several industries, state unemployment went up because
more job-seekers are re-entering the workforce.
Unemployment figures are calculated using the number of jobless
people who are actively seeking work.
The professional and business services industry added the most jobs
last month, with 10,600.
Jay Rowell, the director of the Illinois Department of Employment
Security, says the new numbers are encouraging.
