November 21, 2011]  Lincoln Daily News will have a holiday weekend edition beginning on Wednesday. On Friday, LDN will update the edition with Thanksgiving Day activities as we have done for the past four years. For the weekend we will continue to add important fresh stories to the edition, so make sure between bites of turkey to visit LDN and stay up on all the current events.


There will be a special fundraiser for the Logan County Special Olympics on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lincoln. Music will begin at 3 p.m., and the live band Good2Go will play from 9 p.m. till midnight. Price of admission is only $5.


An original painting by a local artist will be auctioned off to benefit the Humane Society of Logan County. Two original paintings by Jody Phillips will be available for silent auction bids at the 17th annual Pride of the Prairie Folk Art and Craft Show. The art show takes place at the Lincoln Park District on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.


The Logan County Democrats have moved into the 21st century with adding their party activities and information on Facebook. Look for the Logan County Democrats now on Facebook. All Facebook information will be regularly updated.

The next meeting of the Logan County Democrats will be Saturday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. at the Owl's Roost Coffee Bar and Book Store, 427 Pulaski St. in Lincoln.


The Atlanta Public Library/Museum and the A-Team invite you to Soup, Stories and Song featuring "Christmas From the Heart: Stories for people of all ages" with storyteller Dr. Michael Lockett on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Atlanta Methodist Church. The meal includes vegetable soup, chili, barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, homemade pies and cakes. A free-will offering is the cost. The event is sponsored by the Atlanta National Bank.

Carly Powell has been named November Senior-of the-Month at Mount Pulaski High School. Carly is the daughter of Linda Smith of Elkhart and Deron Powell of Mount Pulaski.

Carly is a high honor roll student and a member of National Honor Society. She has been a four-year student council member, serving as secretary her junior year and vice president her senior year. She has been a cheerleader for four years, as well as a member of Spirit Squad. Carly also participated in Spanish Club, WYSE and Drama Club, and she served on the prom committee.

She was chosen to attend Girls State and has been a member of her church youth group.

Carly has been admitted to Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. She plans to attend medical school to become a pediatrician and hopes to someday practice in the Bloomington or Springfield area.

The Senior-of-the-Month program is co-sponsored by Johnson’s Food Center and Mount Pulaski Pharmacy. Monthly winners receive $100 savings bonds and are eligible to compete for the $1,000 Senior-of-the-Year award.
