Congratulations
and best wishes to Deb DeJarnette. After 40 years Deb will be
retiring from the Lincoln Public Library. She started on Aug.
21, 1971, and says the biggest change during her career is
computers and e-books. But she says there will always be a place
for conventional books and the interaction of a reader with the
story, especially with children.
Deb plans to spend time being a
grandmother in Texas with her daughter Marni, who is expecting.
Deb says she will miss many of the people who visit the library
and wishes she could take many of them with her.

Two
men look at a replica of the painting "Flagellation of Christ" prior to
the official restitution ceremony between Indiana University and the
Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation at the Charlottenburg
Palace in Berlin on Monday. Created by a Cologne master,
the painting dates to the late 15th century and originally formed part
of a wing of an altarpiece. It was one of more than a dozen paintings
that disappeared from the Berlin museum during the summer of 1945,
looted by Russian and British soldiers. The IU Art Museum acquired the
painting in 1985 as a gift from Herman B Wells, former longtime IU
president.
University
officials said Wells purchased the work in good faith from a London art
gallery in 1967. Due to conservation and security reasons, the
original painting was not shown at the ceremony.
