Lady Eagles win consolation championship

[November 22, 2011]  MORTON -- The Zion Lutheran Lady Eagles sixth-grade basketball team won the consolation championship of the Morton-Bethel Lutheran Flames Tournament last weekend. The Lady Eagles lost their first game and rebounded to win the next two in the consolation bracket.

The tournament featured eight area schools.

The first tournament game for ZLS was with Pekin-St. Joseph. The Lady Eagles were defeated by the score of 19-9. Scoring for Zion were Tori Tripplett with five and Katie Hunsley and Lane Prather, each with two points.

Next, the Lady Eagles defeated Pekin-Good Shepherd Lutheran 25-5. The Eagles were paced by Tripplett with 10 points. Other scorers were Lauren Canady with seven, Hunsley with six and Gabi Cox adding two.

Zion won the championship game of the consolation bracket by the score of 23-18 over Peoria-Christ Lutheran School. In this final game, Tripplett finished with 11 points, followed by Lane Prather with four, and Canady, Cox, Hunsley and Madelyn Koehler each with two.
