Unit 263 sponsors Americanism essay contest

[November 21, 2011]  American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263 will again sponsor the 2012 Illinois Americanism essay contest, entitled "America's Constitutional Freedoms." All Illinois school students in the seventh and eighth grades, ninth and 10th grades, and 11th and 12th grades are invited to participate in this contest. Home-schoolers will compete at their own grade level according to age.

State-level awards are:

  • Class I, seventh and eighth grades -- $100 to $200 cash awards.

  • Class II, ninth and 10th grades -- $100 to $200 cash awards.

  • Class III, 11th and 12 grades -- $300 to $1,200 scholarships.

Monetary awards are also given on the unit and district level. Lincoln Unit 263 will award $20 to each class winner, $15 to second-place winners and $10 to third-place winners.

Winning essays will be forwarded to the district for judging.
