[October 03, 2011]  SMITH ISLAND, Md. (AP) -- Maryland authorities say they have yet to find the body of an elderly woman who was reported to be aboard a small plane that crashed in the Chesapeake Bay off Smith Island.

HardwareThe woman's son, who was piloting the plane and was able to swim to shore after the crash, told police he and his mother got out of the single-engine plane before it sank on Sunday afternoon, but she died while they were in the water.

Officials continue to search for the body of the woman, whose name has not been released. The cause of the crash is under investigation, and state police say they have notified officials with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
