[October 04, 2011]  LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Slot machine maker International Game Technology is getting first dibs on developing new gambling titles based on movies and television shows owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment through a new licensing deal.

IGT executive Eric Tom tells The Associated Press its exclusivity deal will help cut the time it takes to create games based on movies because the Reno company will have early access to titles.

Tom is IGT's executive vice president of sales and global services for North America.

He says slots for blockbuster hits like "The Dark Knight" or "The Hangover" could be out in as little as six months after theatrical release. Tom says a slot machine for "The Hangover" took about one year to develop after the movie was released.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
