[October 05, 2011]  The board of directors of the Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce will be filling vacancies on its board for directors whose terms will expire at the end of the year. Terms for the new directors are Jan. 1, 2012, through Dec. 31, 2014, with an option to serve one additional three-year term.

The chamber bylaws require notification of membership through this letter explaining the process of selection. If you have an interest in serving, please submit your application prior to the end of October.

1. By the October meeting of the board of directors, the president shall designate five Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce members in good standing to serve as the nominating committee. The president shall designate the chairperson.

2. At the November meeting of the board of directors, the nominating committee shall present a slate of candidates to replace the directors whose terms are expiring, confirming by personal contact with the candidates that the slated nominees are willing to accept directorship responsibility.

3. Upon receipt of the nominating committee's report in November, the executive director shall be instructed to immediately notify the membership by mail of the names of people nominated as candidates for directors and the right of petition as hereinafter provided. A list of the candidates so nominated shall be kept on file in the chamber of commerce office.

4. Additional names of candidates for director can be nominated by petition bearing the genuine signatures of at least 20 qualified members of the chamber of commerce. Such petition shall be filed with the nominating committee within 10 days after notice has been given of the names of those nominated. The determination of the nominating committee as to the validity of the petition shall be final.

5. If no petition is filed within the designated period, the nominations shall be closed and the nominated slate of director candidates shall be declared elected by the board of directors at their December board meeting.

6. If a valid petition shall present additional candidates, the name of all candidates shall be arranged on the ballot in alphabetical order. Instructions shall be to vote for the number of vacancies existing. Identification shall be made on the ballot to identify those candidates nominated by the nominating committee. The usual procedures shall prevail.

7. In the event of an election as provided immediately above, the president shall appoint an election committee composed of three directors whose terms expire at the end of the current association year. It will be their duty to ensure that the election of the board of directors is carried out according to the terms and conditions of the bylaws, that adequate tellers are available, that all votes of members eligible to vote are properly tallied and canvassed, and to declare the true results of said election by written report to the nominating committee.

Please let the chamber of commerce know if you want to know more about the board of directors or have an interest in serving on the board.
