[October 06, 2011]  The Lincoln Christian University Red Lions volleyball team faced the NCAA Division III Fighting Scots from Monmouth College at home on Tuesday. The Red Lions had a sluggish start, with too many unforced errors causing them to lose the first set. They picked up the pace and showed the Scots their endurance and fighting spirit in the next three sets by winning the match 18-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-20.

Head coach Jason Farr said of his senior co-captain and outside hitter Jamie McFadden: "She stepped up as a leader today. That's what we needed and that's what you expect out of a leader."

McFadden led the team with 19 kills, 12 digs, two block assists and five service aces out of 18 serves. The Red Lions' other co-captain, senior setter Lydia Bunting, worked hard on the court as well, contributing 42 set assists, eight digs, two block assists and 14 serves with no errors.

Sophomore hitter Emily Sheley helped the effort by pounding 11 kills and putting up two block assists.

The freshmen provided a balanced effort on the court. Defensive specialist Emma Donnelly was fearless in the back row, handling the Scots' offensive efforts and tallying 12 digs and three service aces. Alicia Carson slammed six kills, while Sammy Nichols had five kills, two blocks, three block assists and some great serving runs.

The Red Lions will head to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Friday to participate in a tri-match with NCAA DIII Coe College at 3:30 p.m. and Beloit College at 5:30 p.m.
