 At the request of several parents, the house has been "loaned" for
use by the Active Catholic Teens group. The wood paneling was
painted for a fresh look and the blinds cleaned. Several young men
learned how to tuck-point the foundation, which was in desperate
need of help. The instructor was parishioner John Sutton, a local
philanthropist and teacher. Bushes and trees were trimmed to allow
more visibility on the property and to allow more light into the
house.The students are from Holy Family in Lincoln, St. Thomas in
Mount Pulaski, St. Mary's in Atlanta and St. Patrick's of Elkhart.
There are a few more projects to finish, but the youth are
already meeting there on Sunday evenings to learn and grow in faith
and to fellowship.
The group is planning an informal open house on Oct. 23 after 10
a.m. Mass to show off their hard work. They hope many will come.
During the open house, they will also sell tickets for the second
annual Avanti's Gondola sandwich fundraiser. Ticket sales will
benefit some social activities; the Dead Theologian Society, an
educational program about saints; and hopefully a mission trip in
the spring to help others less fortunate.
Tickets are $7 each for a full-size authentic Gondola and will be
available for pickup at the Casa on Nov. 22, in time for a quick
meal while preparing Thanksgiving dinner.
