 Upon arrival they found that a vehicle had struck a utility pole,
snapping a power line. The power line fell, came in contact
with the ground and began arcing, which started the grass on
fire. High winds drove the fire into the field.The fire is
estimated to have burned over 300 acres of cropland, including
standing corn and bean fields, along with several harvested fields.
Lincoln Rural requested mutual aid from eight other fire
departments: New Holland, Middletown, Hartsburg, Emden, Mason City,
San Jose, Atlanta and Lincoln (city).
Due to the high winds, Route 10 was closed for several hours
while the fire was being extinguished.
No injuries were reported from the accident or fire suppression
activities.
