Zumbathon Saturday

[October 12, 2011]  On Saturday, the Laughlin Center at Lincoln Christian University will be a little loud. The sound of Latin beats will fill the air, feet will be tapping out the rhythms of high-energy dances, and lives will be changed. Janell Woolard, a licensed Zumba instructor, will be hosting a Zumbathon to benefit the Genesis Ministries Project.

The event, which lasts from 9 a.m. to noon, will combine exercise sessions with Woolard, strength training with Chris Beard, self-defense instruction from Anytime Fitness, proper body mechanics by Dr. Paul Rennick of 1st Choice Chiropractic, and testimonials to inspire, educate and rejuvenate attendees.

There will also be a silent auction and a concession stand, with all proceeds of the concessions to benefit Genesis.

Free day care will be provided by the LCU Red Lions cheer squad.

Donors and sponsors include Lincoln Daily News, Puritan Springs, Lincoln Christian University, 1st Choice Chiropractic, IGA, Subway Restaurants of Lincoln, Culver's and Wendy's of Lincoln, to name a few.

"We are so grateful for the outreach of support by our local businesses to help this event be successful," said Woolard.

The Genesis Ministries Project is located in Lincoln and reaches out primarily to women who are in need of a fresh start -- a genesis in life. The project connects women who struggle with abuse, addiction and emotional problems to the appropriate charity organization.

Katie Alexander, speaking for the Genesis Ministry Project, says the project "will work with each woman or family where they are, and will provide the challenge and encouragement for them to become a functioning person in society."

Women who have been touched by the Genesis Ministries Project will share their testimonies.

Woolard is excited to host Saturday morning's event. "I had the blessings of an incredible Christian network who helped me through -- and were willing to help pull me out of a very dark time," she said. "Although I had to walk it on my own two feet, I needed support. Many are not so blessed. They have no one to turn to.

"That's when an organization such as the Genesis Ministries Project and people like us comes into play. And they need our help! Just three hours of your Saturday morning could change someone's life forever."
