[October 14, 2011]  The Lincoln Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 604 First St. at 8:22 p.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, they discovered fire in the kitchen area of a single-story home, and the fire had already spread into the attic. The firefighters quickly entered the house and extinguished the blaze.

The city fire department was assisted by firefighters from Lincoln Rural, Atlanta and Mount Pulaski.

The fire did extensive damage to the home, which is estimated at $100,000.

The owner of the home lived by himself, and he was not there when the firefighters arrived.

One firefighter from Lincoln suffered a minor shoulder injury but did not seek any medical attention.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but it is still under investigation.
