[October 14, 2011]  The United Way of Logan County is kicking off their yearly campaign -- football style -- with their new fundraiser called "Tailgating for our Community." The event is this Saturday and is planned as a fun night of entertainment at the Lincoln Banquet Center, 201 Madigan Drive.

Patrons will be able to enjoy stadium-style food and DJ music as well as comedy from Mason City Limits. There will be a 50-50 drawing, a silent auction and much more. A cash bar will also be available. The event will begin at 6 p.m.

Organizers say that more than 75 local businesses have donated gift certificates and other items for the silent auction.

There will also be special check presentations to the Lincoln/Logan Food Pantry and Christian Child Care, two of the 14 agencies that United Way of Logan County supports.

In all, for the year 2011, the United Way of Logan County will remit $95,000 to 14 area organizations. That is a 20 percent increase over 2010. With thanks, the board attributes the increase to all the area businesses and individuals who have increased their donations this year, despite rough economic times.

The price of an individual ticket is $25, which includes admission, free food and a "Tailgating" T-shirt.

For more information, call 217-737-2899 or email uwtailgating@gmail.com.

The goal for next year is $98,000.

The United Way of Logan County is a not-for-profit organization with a volunteer board. All donations are tax-deductible.
