[October 20, 2011]  More than 75 people of all ages ran or walked Saturday at Edward Madigan State Park in Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital's first 5K.

"We are pleased that so many people were inspired to challenge themselves at our event," said Joe Santillo, certified athletic trainer at ALMH SportsCare and one of the event coordinators. "The atmosphere was very positive and motivating, and we enjoyed seeing families and co-workers participating together and cheering for one another."

Many seasoned and first-time runners trained for the event. Santillo said there are many health benefits to both running and walking that extend beyond weight-loss programs. Both are great cardiovascular workouts and contribute to muscle tone, range of motion and more.

The 5K was a noncompetitive event, but results were posted at www.almh.org. You can see them by clicking on the Moving Forward icon on the home page. Photos were also posted on Facebook on the Memorial Health System page.

The event was sponsored by Herrin Fertilizer, Farmers Bank, Anytime Fitness, Lincoln Park District, Graue Chevrolet and Midwest Technical Institute.

ALMH is a critical-access hospital that has served the community since 1902. Now located on Stahlhut Drive in Lincoln, the hospital employs more than 290 in a wide variety of job functions and is affiliated with Memorial Health System in Springfield.
