Charles 'Chuck' Eckert

[October 21, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Charles E. "Chuck" Eckert, 92, of Lincoln, died Oct. 20, 2011, at 6:10 p.m. at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Laible officiating.

Burial will be in Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart.

Mr. Eckert was a retired manager of Armour as well as a retired truck driver and bailiff at the Logan County Courthouse.

He was in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 during World War II and served in Italy.

He was born on Jan. 20, 1919, in Lincoln. His parents were Fred and Alice Gossman Eckert. He married Lucille Donaldson on July 6, 1940, in Elkhart.

He is survived by his wife, in Lincoln; his children, Jon (and Carol) Eckert of Marion, David (and Beth) Eckert of Waukegan, Sherry (and Dave) Carder of Phoenix, Ariz., and Diane (and Howard) Sheley of Lincoln; grandchildren Brent Eckert of Marion, Michael (and Amy) Eckert of Marion, Tracy (and Jayson) Brandt of Lombard, Chris (and Erin) Eckert of Waukegan, Amy (and Jim) Rossini of Lake Villa, Leigh (and Rob) Mozina of Antioch, Hal Carder of Radcliff, Ky., and Shanda (and Bryan) O'Donnell of Tracy, Calif.; 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Earl, Harold, Donald and Dallas Eckert; one sister, Marguerite LaValle; and one grandson, Nashua Sheley.
