[October 22, 2011]  SEATTLE (AP) -- Roller derby girls and motorcyclists will be taking over an elevated section of one of Seattle's two north-south highways Saturday before demolition begins on the double-decker roadway.

The Rat City Rollergirls and a motorcycle stunt team called the Seattle Cossacks won a contest to spend 30 minutes on the Alaskan Way Viaduct before it's torn down and replaced with a tunnel. The Washington Department of Transportation says it received nearly 600 creative entries.

The roller girls will practice their skating skills on several blocks of the viaduct, along the waterfront. The Cossacks plan to build human pyramids and perform stunts on their vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles nearby.

The performances will take place around noon but are not really open to the public.

Residents are invited to walk along a different part of the viaduct starting at 9:30 a.m. and could catch a glimpse of the derby and motorcycle teams.
