Pastor Chris Decker rounded third base as he
made his way to home plate during the afternoon baseball game at the
Family Fall Fest hosted by Zion Lutheran Church, Mount Pulaski. The
event was at the former Elkhart Grade School, currently known as Zion
Lutheran Elkhart Center.

Younger children had plenty of room to run
around the yard and play on the playground. Sunday afternoon this
trio talked and laughed together as they took turns pushing each
other on the merry-go-round. |

Noah carried his chair to the opposite ball
field and declared dibs on what seemed to be an undiscovered picnic
area. He called to friends and soon had a small group together to
share his space.

Larry Beccue was the designated chef for hot
dogs on the grill. Diners had a choice of Larry's carefully grilled
hot dogs, or the opportunity to start cold and use the fire pit to
put their camping skills to the test. |
|
Cheerleaders, well-wishers and spouses who
didn't want to play baseball lined up their lawn chairs to watch the
game. During dinner break the area made comfortable seating with a
panoramic view of Elkhart Hill.

Pat Przykopanski, Jim Fuhrer and Marla Blair
acted as judges for the pumpkin dessert contest. The two men are
members of Zion Lutheran Church, Mount Pulaski. The only
requirement to enter the competition was for the dessert to use
pumpkin as an ingredient.

As the afternoon began to slide away, the air
lost the sun's heat. Someone added some wood to the fire pit, and
several ladies circled the space to visit, swap recipes and talk
about the day's event.
|
Pumpkin dessert contest winners were: Judy
Reeves, Pumpkin Crunch, Most Original; Lisa and Corey Leonard,
Pumpkin Pie, Classic; and Gloria Morrow, Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake,
Most Pumpkin Taste. |
