Gov.
Pat Quinn has agreed to a meeting scheduled for tomorrow
morning. The statement from the development partnership's office
said that on Oct. 11 Sen. Larry Bomke's office hand-delivered a letter signed
by Bomke, Sen. Bill Brady, Rep. Rich Brauer and Rep. Bill Mitchell,
asking the governor to meet with the four legislators, as well as
Michael Maniscalco of the development partnership, Andi Hake of the
chamber of commerce, Mayor Keith Snyder and local business leader
Donna Boyd.
The meeting is
scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Capitol building in
Springfield.
The group plans to discuss the negative impact the closure may
have on the communities of Logan County and the reasons why the
governor should keep Logan Correctional Center open.
Mayor Keith Snyder said he is hopeful the discussions with
the governor will be positive for keeping Logan open.
"I'm encouraged that the governor has agreed to see us," Snyder
said. "We're grateful for the opportunity to share with him the
financial and the personal impact closing Logan Correctional Center
would have on Lincoln and Logan County. We're going to be making a
personal plea on behalf of the 356 families at Logan and the 14,500
people of Lincoln that he 'Save Logan!'"
Andi Hake, executive director of the Lincoln/Logan County Chamber
of Commerce, and Maniscalco both have hopes that discussions with
the governor will help keep the prison and its 357 jobs in Logan
County.
In an update, Maniscalco said that Bob Farmer, Logan County Board
chairman, will join the local group to discuss the prison
issue with Quinn. The group will meet with Bomke at 10 a.m. before meeting with the governor.
