Logan County students advance to state speech competition

Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln
recently hosted the annual Logan County Music and Athletic
Association speech contest. There were 36 entries from Carroll
Catholic School, Mount Pulaski Grade School and Zion Lutheran. Three
contest judges chose two performances from their respective rooms to
receive the Judge's Choice Award.

The following Zion Lutheran School entries received Judge's Choice
awards: Joe Ahrends, Joel Robison, Ben Steiner and Garret Olson in
small group acting; Andrew Simmer and Ethan Goodey in duet acting;
Ben Steiner and Joe Ahrends in improv duet acting; and Ashlan Broom,
Emma Cooper and Gabi Cox in small group acting.
Mount Pulaski Grade School speech contest results: Receiving a
first rating were Peyton Taylor and Emily Fielden, duet. Second
ratings went to Miranda Hilliard and Katie Fairchild, duet; Corey
Beccue and Jordan Beck, duet; Bayley Holmes, Emily Wakeman and
Marlena Smith-Leckrone in small group acting; and Elizabeth Siebert,
Morgan Hayes, Max Coppinger and Nate Dyer in small group acting.
Receiving third ratings were Faith Doerr and Olivia Letterle, duet;
Tosha Boyer and Ashley Berry, duet; and Ashley Berry, Abby Howard
and Emma Schoth for small group.
Carroll Catholic School's speech team also did well in the speech
contest. Judge's Choice awards went to Reagen Tibbs and Maggie
Hanger in duet and to Hayden Sanborn and Griffen Jodlowski in improv
duet.
The speech teams will compete Saturday at the Illinois Elementary
School Association speech contest at Buffalo Tri-City. School
administrators and staff members congratulate the students for their
awards and wish them good luck at the state competition.
