After winning the first match against NCAA Division III MacMurray
25-12, 25-12, 25-16, the Red Lions were defeated by the Big Blue of
Millikin University 21-25, 15-25, 11-25. On Saturday, LCU fell to
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in three sets 17-25, 17-25, 6-25,
then stepped up their game to defeat Benedictine University 25-22,
25-19, 24-26, 25-16.
Freshman Alicia Carson had a standout performance during the
weekend as she led the Red Lions with 16 kills against MacMurray.
Senior Jamie McFadden added 12 kills and 13 digs, while sophomore
Hannah Taylor provided 22 assists during the match.
After dominating MacMurray, the Red Lions were shut down by
Millikin University later that evening. Senior Lydia Bunting dished
out 23 assists, nine of which resulted in kills from Carson, who led
LCU for the match.
Bunting, a co-captain for the LCU team, said afterward: "We knew
Millikin was going to be a tough game, but we came out strong,
especially in the first game. It may have been a loss, but teams
like Millikin are who we want to play because they show us the areas
of our game we need to improve."
On Saturday, Eau Claire shut down Carson at the net, and she had
only four kills, but McFadden was able to pound out 14 during the
three sets.

Carson was later named LCU's "Athlete of the Week" based on her
performances throughout the week of Oct. 17.
