You're invited to help 'Plant the Town Red'

[October 28, 2011]  Saturday morning a group is going to work on adding more red tulips to the city's landscape, and anyone who is interested is invited to join in.

The project is part of the From the Group Up organization in Lincoln and is aimed at adding to the overall beauty of the city with beds of red tulips.

Last year the group planted 14,000 tulip bulbs, and this spring they were highly visible throughout the community. With tulips being a perennial that returns year after year, this year the group hopes to enlarge the beautification project with even more.

Anyone who wishes to help should report to City Hall at 9 a.m. Saturday.

According to Kathy Vinyard, who serves as spokeswoman for the group, generators and drills with garden bulb auger bits will be provided to make the task easier.

She also said that targeted areas this week are the gateway signs coming into the city and some of the parks in town.
