Quinn wants probe of voting by absent legislators

[October 29, 2011]  NORMAL (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn wants the "monkey business" of absentee voting by Illinois lawmakers investigated after the Illinois House overrode his veto on legislation that will raise electric rates to pay to modernize the state's power grid.

WJBC reports that Quinn says it's not right for other lawmakers or staff members to vote when lawmakers aren't on the floor. Quinn made his comments when he visited Heartland Community College in Normal on Friday.

About 18 Illinois House members weren't on the floor when the chamber voted this week to override his veto.

The Bloomington Pantagraph reports that Quinn says this is a "serious matter" that the legislative inspector general should look at.
