Paramedic Rob Kelly gave tours of the
ambulance to students at Jefferson Elementary School. Students also
saw outside compartments with emergency equipment and walked around
to see the lights and listen to the siren. Kelly asked the students
why the word "ambulance" was written backward and which side of
the road you should stop on when an ambulance is coming (the right).

Mrs. Miller's second-grade class and students
from the other classes at Jefferson Elementary received a coloring
book and a sticker after touring the ambulance. The ambulance is a
new model that no one has ridden in yet. The students were the first
people to be inside the emergency vehicle. |

Kindergarten students Jessica and Zane were
suited up for a picture as firefighters. The prop is a learning tool
the firemen brought so students could see themselves dressed in the
outfits. Their pictures were taken by the school so each will have a
reminder of the day's event.

Steve Dahm, assistant fire chief, helped
students as they climbed into the back of the fire truck. They were
allowed to sit inside in order to find out what it is like for the
firemen and what they see while riding to a fire. |
|
Mrs. Hofer's kindergarten class enjoyed the
fire truck, and everyone took a turn sitting inside. Even though the
truck is large, no one was afraid to be close to it or to sit
inside. The students see fire trucks and emergency vehicles drive
past the school on Fifth Street.
